About Us
Origins
The Global Association of Advanced Biomass (GAAB) is the successor to the Swiss Algae Consortium Association (SWALG), founded in Bern in 2018. In June 2025, the Board Members expanded the scope of the association to include advanced terrestrial biomass and biomass derived materials. This development reflected the shift from a single biomass category to a broader and more inclusive field.
Purpose and Scope
GAAB engages with the scientific, industrial and policy communities to promote the responsible development of advanced biomass. The association seeks to foster cooperation among researchers, public institutions and private sector actors at both national and international level.
Core Values
GAAB is committed to responsible innovation, transparent scientific practice and constructive cooperation between regions, sectors and disciplines. The association supports knowledge exchange, capacity building and research activities that contribute to sustainable resource management.
